Max Kamien was born in North Perth to parents who had emigrated from Poland and Russia.  He was forunate to have attended North Perth State and Perth Modern Schools and the new medical school at UWA, graduating in 1960.  He has been a psychiatrist, a hospital physician, a third and fourth world doctor, a rural GP in the back ‘o Bourke and for 27 years, the first appointed professor of General Practice in Australia.
