Rabbi Kim Ettlinger making her interactive presentation

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1988 Rabbi Ettlinger moved with her family to Perth, WA, where she was an active member of Temple David. In 2005 Rabbi Ettlinger was ordained at Hebrew Union College (HUC), where she earned two Master of Arts Degrees, in Jewish Education and in Hebrew Letters. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Politics, Philosophy, and Sociology from Murdoch University.

Rabbi Ettlinger first worked at Peninsula Temple Sholom in San Francisco, before returning to Australia in 2010 to Melbourne to Temple Beth Israel. Rabbi Ettlinger is delighted to return to Perth to her home congregation of Temple David along with her two-year-old daughter Noa. Rabbi Ettlinger is passionate about liturgy, education, and keeping Judaism relevant.

Occupied Paris, 1941: All members of the Jewish community are instructed to come forward and identify themselves to authorities. Dedicated jeweller Joseph Haffman (Daniel Auteuil), fearing the worst, arranges for his family to flee the city and offers his employe Francois Mercier (Gilles Lellouche) the chance to take over his store until the conflict subsides. But his own attempts to escape are thwarted, and Haffmann is forced to seek his assistant’s protection. It’s a risky proposition for both men, and Mercier’s wife Blanche (Sara Giraudeau) is sceptical. As the couple move into the Haffman home, the agreement turns into a Faustian bargain – one that will forever change the fate of all…

Education of Clergy for Jewish-Christian Relations

Educators from three Christian denominations will share their approaches to mission and biblical interpretation with respect to Jews and Judaism.

The Rev Dr Raewynne Whiteley BA(Hons), BTh, BMin, MA, PhD
Warden, Wollaston Theological College

Dr Whitely is the new Warden of Wollastron Theological College. Although born and ordained in Australia, she has spent the last 24 years overseas, firstly in northeast of the US, where she studied for her PhD, was a parish priest, and became a ski instructor, and more recently in the south of London, where she worked in vocations and lay ministry for the Diocese of Southwark. She has published two books, Get Up Off Your Knees: Preaching the U2 Catalog (edited with Beth Maynard) and Steeped in the Holy: Preaching as Spirirtual Practice. Her particular research interests are the history of preaching, and preaching in an Anglican context.

Dr David Cohen has been teaching, researching, and writing in theology for over 20 years. He has a Jewish heritage from his father’s side and has travelled to the Middle East on several occasions to teach and conduct research. During these visits to Israel, in particular, and also here in Australia, David has been involved with interfaith dialogues in various contexts. He is passionate about promoting respectful conversations between various faith traditions and emphasises the importance of mutual understanding in his teaching.

Presenter at Centre of Faith Enrichment, Archdiocese of Perth

Joe Tedesco is currently involved in the teaching program at the School of Philosophy and Theology at the University of Notre Dame Australia, something he has done for over 15 years – this includes courses on the relationship between the Hebrew Scriptures, the Christian Bible and contemporary Christian Teaching. He is also a longstanding presenter at the Centre for Faith Enrichment in the Catholic Archdiocese of Perth. There he writes and delivers educational and faith formation seminars aiding participants to better understand the Bible and related topics from the Catholic intellectual tradition.

Judith Lawrence is the Operations Manager at the Holocaust Institute of WA. Judith was born in South Africa and moved to Israel at 18, where she studied and lived for 10 years. Since arriving in Australia in 2007, she has worked in education in the not-for-profit sector. Judith is passionate about education and believes that if knowledge is power, education is the key to progress and change. It is this belief that both inspires and motivates her in both her personal and professional life.
